Title: Standardized Tests Deciding Students Future Purpose statement : Persuade the audience that standardized testing is problematic Thesis statement : Standardized tests give an inaccurate measure of college success Introduction A.  According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, ““The SAT is not designed as an indicator of student achievement, but rather as an aid for predicting how well students will do in college.” B. I took the Act/Sat multiple times trying to improve my score because I knew how much colleges looked into them. C. Thesis:  Standardized tests give an inaccurate measure of college success Transition: Now we will look at the three big reasons why standardized tests don’t measure college success. Body Main point 1. ACT/SAT don’t test students on high school curriculum. The information that is on the ACT/SAT is stuff that the teachers spend about two weeks trying to teach students. Standardized tests play a huge role in education today. Standardized tests are meant to predict how well a student will perform in school. A bad score on a standardized test can hold a student back from advancing in their educational system.  A good score can help a student  advance even though that student may not deserve it. There have been many debates on whether standardized testing measures a student's intelligence or not. Some people claim standardized tests eliminate grading bias, but others say it isn’t accurate since performance is based off one test.    My proposal states that standardized testing falsely measures student intelligence and needs to be changed.  Standardized test scores can hold students back who have the potential to be successful in college. One test score should not determine  some  one ' s  future.  If schools continue to focus on standardized test scores, students will continue to lose opportunities.  ...

Speech #2

The final speech project asks us to put together all of our rhetoric skills and think about a problem that we are passionate about and to think of a solution for that problem. We must persuade the class on why this problem is so important. We also have the choice of what visual ad we use whether it is a full power point or just one picture. After our presentation, we must create a page reflection on how we used rhetoric skills.

reflection on 2nd peer review

After reviewing Casey’s paper I think I can go back to my paper and fix some things. One thing Casey forgot was an appendix and that made me realize that I need to add one in too. Also I realized I can go back into my methods section and change some things.

reflection on peer review

After reviewing Ellie’s paper I think the comments I made can also be applied to my own paper. Some things I suggested Ellie were to check in text citations, add more information to the results section, and try to be more concise. I can go back over my paper and make sure I cited my information correctly and didn’t make any errors. I can also go back and try to shorten sentences. After analyzing her paper I also realized I need to add more headers to my paper so it is more organized.
